Oistrakh’s Cadenza from the Shostakovich Concerto

Dmitri Shostakovich’s writing in this cadenza is already phenomenal. He understood how to deploy the dramatic powers of the violin. But played by his friend David Oistrakh, the cadenza’s sustained build-up becomes hypnotic.
